Interview with R. L. Selby, Jr. and Lewis Marie Selby concerning their experiences as co-owners and operators of Selby Florist in Denton, Texas. Lewis Marie Selby discusses her family background and education, the Depression, her teaching career, her marriage, and entering the family business. R. L. Selby discusses his family background and education, the Depression, his work in his youth at his father's nursery, and his full-time entry into the family business. Both R. L. and Lewis Marie talk about the growth of sales volume and variety of plants at the family nursery, distribution, improvements in equipment, as well as the Depression, the opening of their retail florist shop, World War II, and being the sole owners of a retail store in 1949. They also explain their credit policies, employee relations, the opening of a garden center, trade association activities, their reasons for success, and the sale of their business. At the back of volume is an Appendix which includes scripts for radio advertisements, written and recorded by Mrs. R. L. Selby.
